Family Evangelization and Faith Formation (FEFF)
-
Family Evangelization and Faith Formation (FEFF) is a parish ministry managed and implemented by a group of trained certified catechists, who teach young people in the parish about the Catholic faith. This includes preparation for the sacraments of Reconciliation (Confession), Eucharist (Holy Communion), and Confirmation. FEFF classes are open to all young people in grades Kindergarten through Grade 12. We aim to guide our students to develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and to form in mind, heart, and action the basic tenets of the Catholic faith. We intend to accompany families and one another in our lifelong journey of faith. Parishioners, parents, and the outside world see us as dedicated to this goal, worthy of their trust, and in need of their support, cooperation, and assistance.

What does a Sunday session look like?
-
This school year (2025-2026), whole families come for faith formation on Sunday mornings. We have a light breakfast at 9:00 to 9:30 AM. At exactly 9:30 AM breakfast time is over and the kitchen is closed. Catechists, parents, and students gather together facing the screen for family catechesis until 10:05 AM. This is followed by breakout sessions, where students go to their respective classrooms. English-speaking parents go to the English Parent Catechist, and the Spanish-speaking to the Spanish Parent Catechist. The parent sessions end at 11:00 AM and the students’ at 11:15. At 11:00 the parents wait outside the students’ classroom, and pick up their children at 11:15. They then go upstairs as a family to attend the 11:30 AM Mass.

Who administers FEFF and what are the requirements for catechists?

The Administrator of FEFF is our Parish Priest, Rev. Victor Hernando. The program is coordinated by Master Catechist Erlinda Teisinger. Catechists are “intentional disciples” who dedicate themselves and their time to our children. All are required to comply with diocesan standards which include completing a Criminal Background Check, obtaining a Safe Environment Training Certificate, and acquiring a Diocese of Fresno Basic Catechist Certificate which qualifies them to catechize children and adults in the diocese.

Our Lady of the Sierra's FEFF program requires families to be registered parishioners of the parish. New students need to present proper documentation which includes Baptism and Communion Certificates. Returning students also need to register in order to update ttheir contact information and fill out required diocesan documents such as medical emergency and other release forms. Registration forms need to be submitted either online or in person by September 29,2025.
